Local team, Wolves, have partnered with Warner Music UK’s Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) to become the first football club to launch a record label.
They have enlisted S-X, a successful songwriter and producer who has worked with a variety of artists from Lil Wayne to Childish Gambino to Chance the Rapper, to produce the first track.
The Wolverhampton native expressed his optimism for the project saying: “Wolves and the city of Wolverhampton are both very close to my heart, and I am deeply passionate about giving talented young people from this area the best opportunities. I am very excited to be involved and support Wolves Records from the beginning and am looking forward to helping identify the best local talent and working with the label’s first artists.”
Peter Rudge, former manager for The Rolling Stones, The Who and now is the strategic consultant for the label said:
“Football and music are a universal language. Wherever in the world you visit you will likely see a Beckham or a Beatles t-shirt, footballers of today have so much in common with musicians in terms of influencing and setting the cultural tone of the times.”
While this may not be the most expected business move, there’s no denying that the potential for this project to amplify the unique talent in the West Midlands is endless.
With access to the football club’s global audience and the ADA’s marketing and distribution expertise, this is the perfect opportunity for emerging artists who are looking to establish themselves.
The label are currently looking for their first signee and are encouraging submissions from singers, songwriters and producers here.
