● 30th March 2016 – Music

If you’re feeling a little ‘under the weather’ and going back to work yesterday was a struggle, this week’s events will sound like smooth jazz to your ears. A gentle, but jam packed weekend full of trainers, food and funk. So with out further ado here are the events Before the Sol select this week:

Saturday 2nd April
sneaks&peaks @ 119 Floodgate Street, Digbeth

Supporting local creators; street artists, clothing labels, DJs and a whole warehouse full of trainers to buy, S&P bring everything close to the heart. Kicking off at 11.30am for VIP ticket holders (only a fiver) and 12.30pm if you want an extra hour in bed and to save a couple quid! Expect all sorts of street wear and food goodness.

Saturday 2nd April
Moschino Hoe Versace Hottie @ Spotlight

Like left and right, MoHo and S&P would fit perfectly heel-to-toe in a shoebox. After last months massive signing, MoHo honour the BBK x OVO collaboration with a night dedicated to the two labels. Big beats and an even better atmosphere, check this one out if you’re not already a regular.

Saturday 2nd April
Birmingham Record Fair @ Custard Factory

If browsing vinyl is more up your street, Birmingham is having a record fair! Head down to the central hub of all things independent for an afternoon of flicking through prog rock to punk rock, soul to hip hop! Traders from all over the UK. 10am – 3.30pm.

Saturday 2nd April
The Yardbird & Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul Presents Speedometer @ Hare & Hounds

Brummy heavyweights in soul bring live jazz band Speedometer to the city with vocals from James Junior. Perhaps an alternative Saturday night, but if the Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival line up is anything to go by this will be a real treat!

Sunday 3nd April
DDC and the Hare & Hounds Street Food Take Over @ York Road, Kings Heath

Keeping things strictly street. York Road will be host to 12 of Birmingham’s top food vendors for an afternoon of music, market stalls and deliciousness.

Sunday 3nd April
Havana Club Rumba Sessions @ The Mocking Bird Theatre

This feature length documentary is the latest chapter in the longstanding relationship between Gilles Peterson, Havana Cultura and the music of Cuba. Together they drink a lot of white rum, rumba and jam in traditional casitas across the island. Take a look at the Facebook page, full description is on there: https://www.facebook.com/events/1984720811752980/

Give their latest release a listen too; ‘Havana Club Rumba Sessions’. Great remixes from some Before the Sol Faves.
