● 22nd March 2016 – Music

It’s here. The week overdrafts and paracetamol are made for. The first bank holiday of the year and Birmingham has put on an absolute spread for us. With everything from gully Grime to dazzling Disco there’s something for everyone to celebrate the holy-grail of holidays. It’s a busy one so here are the events Before the Sol select this week:

Thursday 23rd March

SKIT @ The Sunflower Lounge

Commencing proceedings at 8pm on Thursday is the monthly SKIT showcase. A night of pure, un-fucked-with hip-hop straight from fresh, unsigned, UK gems. This month on the mic; collective House of Pharaohs bring their best bars from London, Lafrenchclass has got the cool covered and ready-made-babe, Lady Sanity is showing the boys how it’s done; all hosted by charm master Phundo Art. The Sunflower Lounge provides a perfect underground den for up and coming artists to plot their next plan of action. Get down early as it packs out. £3 ONTD.

Thursday 24th March

Kano @ O2 Academy

Keeping things un-fucked-with Kano comes to the O2. After recently taking Charlie Sloth’s top spot in his infamous ‘fire in the booth’ Kano proves his point “Shh, fed up of people saying that Kano is underrated /Show me who don’t rate, nigga, and I’ll show you who is hating.” High energy, high octane, this is the place to get pumped for the weekend. With a curfew I’m sure Kano doesn’t condone (11pm) you could head over to Spotlight for Gold teeth present: The Great British Drake Off for some tasty afters.

Friday 26th March

OUSE – 90s RAVE @ Boxxed

The Ouse team are at it again. This time bringing all things Fresh Prince and fabulous. Expect ‘old skool rave frequencies from across the dance music spectrum. House, Techno, Garage, Acid House, Jungle, Drum n Bass and of course plenty of funk and disco.’ So, in the words of Lord Finesse “Check it out now, the funk soul brother.”

Saturday 26th March

Chapter XII

If you didn’t know, The Rainbow are throwing a party on Saturday with some real big names. Very little really needs to be said about this party, I’m sure you already know the score!

Saturday 26th March

VOID Digbeth 12hr Bank Holiday Special

If guys in sunglasses and Huaraches isn’t really your thing but underground house and techno is still. Check out The Rainbow’s noisy neighbour, Void Digbeth. With a ‘we don’t give a shit’ attitude, a sound system that will leave you questioning your sanity (seriously, ear-plugs are a must) and beers from a hole in the wall the Void is Birmingham’s shining rough diamond.

Saturday 26th March

Holiday @ The Victoria

SWITCH UP. If you’re done raving til 6am and just want a damn good dance, love disco or want a dose of bank Holiday sass, head to Holiday’s new home at The Vic. Free entry before 10pm and Piña Colada when you sign up here.

Sunday 27th March

Love the Life & Holiday Easter Sunday Party @ The Hare & Hounds

If you’re not done partying yet, the Holiday carries through to Sunday! LTL & HLDY join forces once again to ease you out of that horrible hangover. Dance off the chocolate overload and get down with the Easter bunny – I’m sure this will be eggceptional fun!
