As we know, the West Midlands has never lacked in the talented female vocalist department.

Ameenah is certainly proving herself to be of this calibre as she pops up fresh out the gate for the new year with her latest single Ways, accompanied by a snappy, sing-a-long video.

She enlists veteran Sippy Blu with the production duties on the heavy garage inspired riddim; an uplifting anthem set to pick you up when you need it most.

Ways is a journal style entry about an ongoing fight Ameenah has with pride, existing in different shapes and forms. It kicks off with her rapping in a spaced out manor, similar to Yaeji on Raingurl.

She sticks a verbal middle finger up to both “the men who don’t know me trying to control me and women who loathe me tryna get closer to me”, pushing them all to the side and silencing the noise.

Ameenah shared her thoughts with us on ways, stating:

“The way I created this song was almost as if it’s a diary entry or internal dialogue. The song is about how pride can sometimes get the best of us.

This is me saying try not to get caught up, stay in your own lane, focus on what you’re doing, don’t watch anyone else, but to remember that we’re only human so it will happen from time to time.

Pushing the BS to the side certainly seems to be the key for a successful year ahead – we could all take a page out of Ameenah’s journal.
